Poland’s decision to temporarily suspend the processing of asylum applications along its border with Belarus has drawn strong international attention.
Authorities argue that the sharp increase in irregular crossings represents a serious threat to national security and public order.
During a recent visit to the border, the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration confirmed that Poland’s emergency measures align with European Union regulations under extraordinary threats.
Civil & Human rights groups voice concerns
However, Civil Rights & Human Rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have raised concerns that suspending access to asylum procedures could set a dangerous precedent within the EU.
They warn that limiting access to protection undermines the Union’s long-standing commitment to human rights and the rule of law.
