On April 23, 2025, a conference focusing on the crucial role of civil society in strengthening the rule of law was held in Poland. Organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice, the event brought together representatives of governmental institutions, non-governmental organizations, academia, and youth groups.
Participants emphasized the importance of civic and legal education as a fundamental element for building a sustainable, democratic legal order. Special attention was given to the need for engaging young people in democratic processes and supporting local initiatives — such as educational workshops, information campaigns, and social actions — which foster citizens’ trust in state institutions.
Speakers highlighted that an aware civil society, conscious of its rights and responsibilities, plays a key role in upholding constitutional values, ensuring transparency in public life, and strengthening the resilience of local communities against threats to democracy.
The conference also addressed practical measures to promote civic activity, such as improving access to public consultations, encouraging participatory budgeting, and creating platforms for dialogue between citizens and authorities.
The debate reaffirmed that civil society is not merely a beneficiary, but a vital guardian of the rule of law, and that its development must be a priority for every democratic government.
