ISLAMABAD — In a historic ruling, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have been sentenced to 17 years in prison in the high-profile Toshakhana II corruption case. The case revolves around the illegal purchase and undervaluation of luxury gifts received from foreign dignitaries, a serious breach of public trust.
The verdict includes 10 years for criminal breach of trust and 7 years under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and also imposes hefty fines. The sentence will commence after Khan completes another ongoing conviction.
The ruling has ignited political tensions. PTI denounces it as politically motivated, while government officials hail it as a decisive statement against corruption. Analysts warn this landmark judgment could reshape Pakistan’s political landscape.
