CSNN Expands Its Presence in West Africa: CSNN Liberia Is Established
Civil Society News Network — CSNN officially establishes CSNN Liberia, opening a new chapter in its media, civic, and institutional presence in West Africa. The initiative marks an important strategic step in strengthening responsible journalism, press freedom, civil society dialogue, human rights, peacebuilding, and Liberia’s international visibility.

The establishment of CSNN Liberia represents an important element of the international development strategy of Civil Society News Network. The new office will be developed as a national platform for responsible journalism, civic dialogue, press freedom, human rights, peace, education, humanitarian cooperation and institutional relations.
The decision to begin activities in Liberia followed a series of discussions concerning the situation of the media, civil society, religious communities, democracy, the justice system and the needs of local communities.
CSNN Liberia — A New Media and Civic Presence in West Africa
CSNN Liberia will develop its activities in accordance with the fundamental principles of Civil Society News Network: editorial independence, responsible communication, protection of freedom of expression and press freedom, representation of the voice of civil society, respect for human rights, democratic dialogue, peacebuilding and reconciliation.
The office will also support the international visibility of Liberia through the publication of news, analyses, interviews, reports and materials concerning the country’s social, political, educational, humanitarian and economic processes.
CSNN Liberia will not be subordinate to any political party or governmental environment. Its mission will be to act in the public interest, with respect for the laws of the Republic of Liberia, journalistic ethics and the editorial independence of CSNN.
H.E. Bishop Dr. Josiah K. Pah Sr. — Director, CSNN Liberia
H.E. Bishop Dr. Josiah K. Pah Sr. is a Liberian bishop, educator, civil society leader and public figure with extensive experience in religious, academic, social and institutional engagement.
His public activity focuses on press freedom, human rights, good governance, democracy, peace, justice, reconciliation, education and the development of local communities.
He is associated with religious and social initiatives in Liberia, including activities supporting faith communities, Christian education, assistance for vulnerable people and social dialogue.
Throughout his career, he has also held public, academic and institutional roles. According to his professional record, he has been associated with the Liberian Parliament, AME Zion University in Monrovia, the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company, the Constitutional Reform Committee and the Liberia Electricity Corporation.
In 2021, he was nominated by President George Manneh Weah to serve on the Board of Directors of the Liberia Electricity Corporation. He has also participated in international initiatives related to sustainable development, education and humanitarian cooperation.
As Director of CSNN Liberia, he will be responsible for developing the presence of CSNN in the country and building relations with the media, public institutions, civil society organizations, universities, religious communities, humanitarian organizations and international partners.

Why Liberia Matters to CSNN
Liberia holds a special historical and political significance in West Africa. The country was established in the nineteenth century by formerly enslaved African Americans and developed its own political, social and cultural identity.
Contemporary Liberia continues to face consequences of prolonged internal conflicts, institutional weaknesses, social inequality, educational challenges, humanitarian needs and issues related to the rule of law, media freedom and public accountability.
From the perspective of CSNN, Liberia should not be presented solely through the prism of crises. It is also a country with an active civil society, influential religious communities, developing media, academic institutions and people committed to peacebuilding, democracy and social development.
CSNN’s objective will be to present Liberia in a reliable, multidimensional and responsible manner — by analyzing challenges while also highlighting positive initiatives, community leaders, educational projects, humanitarian activities and development opportunities.
Planned CSNN Diplomatic and Institutional Mission to Liberia
The next stage in the development of CSNN Liberia will be the preparation of a planned diplomatic and institutional mission within the framework of the CSNN Diplomatic & Institutional Relations Corps.
The mission will have an informational, analytical, representative and institutional character. Its purpose will be to assess the situation in Liberia from multiple perspectives, identify local partners, evaluate public needs and prepare long-term frameworks for the future activities of CSNN and Equal Society International — ESI in Liberia.
