Sri N.Rangaswamy, is a people’s person who picks the phone himself even a call from a person like me who is an outsider at Puducherry.
Sri N. Rangasamy is the present Chief Minister served the Indian Union Territory Puducherry (Formerly known as Pondicherry) for 16 years in separate terms and on May 13, 2026 formed the present government by winning Assembly elections.
Puducherry has a long connection with Europe as it was under the French colony till 1954 even after India got independence in 1947.
Puducherry, globally famous for the long sea beach and spiritual centre established by Sri Aurobindo and Mirra Alfassa, A French lady later called as ‘The Mother’.
The 15th edition of Lonely Planet published, Puducherry was ranked second among the top cities to visit globally after Toulouse of France.
Sir, Puducherry is a tourist spot for both spiritual and sybarite tourists from across India and other parts of the world. What is your 5-year vision for Puducherry?
This is an on-going process of development that includes many aspects.
Since Puducherry is a Union Territory and you have the coalition government with the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), which is ruling at the centre, how central government is assisting you in the development of Puducherry?
Being one of the eight Union Territories in India, Puducherry directly funded by the central government.
Some of the present projects are –

Infrastructure – to manage traffic jam
4-kilometer, four-lane flyover project connects Indira Gandhi Square to Rajiv Gandhi Square and Marapalam.
- Modernization and Star Hotels – The government is giving star hotels Rs1 Crore subsidy to attract more travellers and provide international amenities.

Beach Development project – Cleanliness and no-smoking zone.
The Eden beach of Pondicherry has ‘Blue Flag’ certificate by the Foundation for Environment Education (FEE) in Denmark.
Since Pondicherry was a colony of France, do you have any special collaboration project with the present French government? If yes, what is it? If not, would you like to work in this direction?
Yes, French Institute by the French government in Puducherry is there from the year 1955 as a cultural bridge between Puducherry and France.
Saint Denis of France has a long-term partnership with Puducherry.
French language is taught in most of the schools in Puducherry, not mandatory but optional subject.
There are many people from Puducherry who have French citizenship even today. They form a natural collaboration between Puducherry and France.

Do you think Aurobindo Ashram and the knowledge of spirituality will be spread in a new light just like yoga?
How about the Puducherry government declaring a ‘ Day of Spirituality’?
Puducherry itself is a land of spirituality.
Declaring a ‘Day of Spirituality’ is a policy decision between the two governments. We heard your suggestion.
Sri Aurobindo was a Bengali, his collaborator, The Mother (Sree Ma) was born in France but their work and names are associated with Pondicherry, a Tamil speaking region of India. Do you think we are lacking the same spirit of tolerance and unity in modern times and what should be the public and private endeavour to maintain collaboration and inclusion?
The government is inclusive and broad. In general, exclusion might be personal decision or question of some but not by the administration.

पुदुचेरी लंबे समुद्री तट और श्री अरविंदो तथा मिर्रा अल्फासा द्वारा स्थापित आध्यात्मिक केंद्र के लिए विश्व प्रसिद्ध है; फ्रांस में जन्मी इस महिला को बाद में ‘द मदर’ कहा गया।
लोनली प्लैनेट के प्रकाशित 15वें संस्करण में, फ्रांस के टूलूज़ के बाद पुदुचेरी को विश्व स्तर पर घूमने के लिए शीर्ष शहरों में दूसरा स्थान दिया गया।
महोदय, पुदुचेरी भारत और दुनिया के अन्य हिस्सों से आने वाले आध्यात्मिक तथा सुख-विलासप्रिय पर्यटकों, दोनों के लिए पर्यटन स्थल है। पुदुचेरी के लिए आपका 5-वर्षीय दृष्टिकोण क्या है?
यह विकास की एक सतत प्रक्रिया है, जिसमें कई पहलू शामिल हैं।
चूंकि पुदुचेरी एक केंद्र शासित प्रदेश है और आपकी भाजपा (भारतीय जनता पार्टी) के साथ गठबंधन सरकार है, जो केंद्र में शासन कर रही है, केंद्र सरकार पुदुचेरी के विकास में आपकी किस प्रकार सहायता कर रही है?
भारत के आठ केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों में से एक होने के कारण, पुदुचेरी को सीधे केंद्र सरकार द्वारा वित्तपोषित किया जाता है।

4 किलोमीटर लंबी, चार लेन वाली फ्लाईओवर परियोजना इंदिरा गांधी स्क्वायर को राजीव गांधी स्क्वायर और मरापलम से जोड़ती है।
- आधुनिकीकरण और स्टार होटल – सरकार अधिक यात्रियों को आकर्षित करने और अंतरराष्ट्रीय सुविधाएं प्रदान करने के लिए स्टार होटलों को 1 करोड़ रुपये की सब्सिडी दे रही है।

समुद्र तट विकास परियोजना – स्वच्छता और धूम्रपान-मुक्त क्षेत्र।
पांडिचेरी के ईडन बीच को डेनमार्क की फाउंडेशन फॉर एनवायरनमेंट एजुकेशन (FEE) द्वारा ‘ब्लू फ्लैग’ प्रमाणपत्र मिला है।
चूंकि पांडिचेरी फ्रांस का उपनिवेश था, क्या वर्तमान फ्रांसीसी सरकार के साथ आपकी कोई विशेष सहयोग परियोजना है? यदि हां, तो वह क्या है? यदि नहीं, तो क्या आप इस दिशा में काम करना चाहेंगे?
हां, फ्रांसीसी सरकार द्वारा स्थापित फ्रेंच इंस्टीट्यूट 1955 से पुदुचेरी और फ्रांस के बीच सांस्कृतिक सेतु के रूप में मौजूद है।
फ्रांस के सेंट-डेनिस की पुदुचेरी के साथ दीर्घकालिक साझेदारी है।
पुदुचेरी के अधिकांश स्कूलों में फ्रांसीसी भाषा पढ़ाई जाती है; यह अनिवार्य नहीं, बल्कि वैकल्पिक विषय है।
आज भी पुदुचेरी के कई लोगों के पास फ्रांसीसी नागरिकता है। वे पुदुचेरी और फ्रांस के बीच स्वाभाविक सहयोग का आधार बनते हैं।

क्या आपको लगता है कि अरविंदो आश्रम और आध्यात्मिकता का ज्ञान योग की तरह एक नई रोशनी में प्रसारित होगा?
पुदुचेरी सरकार द्वारा ‘आध्यात्मिकता दिवस’ घोषित करने के बारे में आपका क्या विचार है?
पुदुचेरी स्वयं आध्यात्मिकता की भूमि है।
‘आध्यात्मिकता दिवस’ घोषित करना दोनों सरकारों के बीच नीतिगत निर्णय है। हमने आपके सुझाव को सुना है।
श्री अरविंदो बंगाली थे, उनकी सहयोगी, द मदर (श्री मां), फ्रांस में जन्मी थीं, लेकिन उनका कार्य और नाम भारत के तमिल-भाषी क्षेत्र पांडिचेरी से जुड़ा है। क्या आपको लगता है कि आधुनिक समय में हम सहिष्णुता और एकता की उसी भावना से वंचित हो रहे हैं, और सहयोग तथा समावेशन बनाए रखने के लिए सार्वजनिक और निजी प्रयास क्या होने चाहिए?
सरकार समावेशी और व्यापक दृष्टिकोण वाली है। सामान्य रूप से, बहिष्करण किसी व्यक्ति का निजी निर्णय या कुछ लोगों का प्रश्न हो सकता है, लेकिन प्रशासन की नीति नहीं है।
